AN ACT TO AMEND HOUSE BILL NO. 467 RATIFIED APRIL 28, 1959, RELATING TO THE REORGANIZATION OF THE MECKLENBURG COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. Subsection (1) of Section 22 of House Bill No. 467, ratified April 28, 1959, is hereby deleted and the following paragraph is inserted in lieu thereof:

"(1)      An election is called and held in Mecklenburg County on a countywide basis prior to January 1, 1960, on the question of providing a supplemental school tax at a rate to be determined by joint action of the Mecklenburg County Board of Education and the Charlotte City Board of Education not to exceed sixty cents (60¢) on the one hundred dollar ($100.00) valuation."

Sec. 2. House Bill No. 467, ratified April 28, 1959, is further amended by adding at the end of Section 22 thereof the following:

"Provided that in any county-wide supplemental school tax election in Mecklenburg County the rate to be voted on may be such as the Mecklenburg County Board of Education and the Charlotte City Board of Education fix and determine by joint action, not to exceed sixty cents (60¢) on the one hundred dollar ($100.00) valuation of property, real and personal; and in the event the rate so fixed is approved in said election, the Board of County Commissioners of Mecklenburg County shall have the authority to levy and collect a tax not exceeding the amount so authorized beginning with the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1960."

Sec. 3. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
