SENATE BILL 288

 

 

AN ACT TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF RHODHISS IN THE COUNTIES OF BURKE AND CALDWELL.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. That Chapter 84, Private Laws of 1903, be and the same is hereby amended by striking out all of Sections 3 and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

"Section 3. That the officers of the town shall consist of a mayor and four commissioners and a marshal or chief of police and such other policemen as in the judgment of the mayor and commissioners may be necessary for the preservation of the peace and good order of the said town; the said commissioners are hereby authorized to appoint a mayor pro tempore and a clerk and treasurer, each of whom may also be one of the commissioners."

Sec. 2. That Section 5 of said Chapter shall be and the same is hereby amended by striking out all of said Section and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

"Section 5. That an election shall be held on the first Monday in June, 1962, and on the first Monday in June at intervals of two years thereafter, for the said offices of mayor and commissioners. Said election shall be held under the provisions of the general election laws of North Carolina."

Sec. 3. That Section 8 of said Chapter be and the same is hereby amended by inserting in line three after the words "said town" and before the word "that" and by striking out the semicolon and inserting a comma and the following phrase "and outside the said town limits a distance of one-fourth mile;".

Sec. 4. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 5. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
