AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 20 OF THE GENERAL STATUTES OF NORTH CAROLINA BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION DECLARING IT UNLAWFUL FOR PERSONS TO OPERATE BICYCLES AND MOTORCYCLES ON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAYS MORE THAN TWO ABREAST.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  Chapter 20 of the General Statutes of North Carolina is hereby amended by adding a new Section thereto to be designated as G.S. 20-146.1 and to read as follows:

"§ 20-146.1.  Operation of Motorcycles. It shall be unlawful for persons operating motorcycles upon the public highways of the State of North Carolina to travel thereon more than two abreast.

Any persons operating motorcycles upon the public highways shall operate the same as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable, exercising due care when passing a standing vehicle or one proceeding in the same direction."

Sec. 1 1/2.  Upon conviction of the above offense, the punishment therefor shall be a fine not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00), or imprisonment not to exceed thirty days for each offense.

Sec. 2.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3.  This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
