AN ACT TO AMEND GS 115-18, TO PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF BLADEN COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. G. S. 115-18 is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof the following:

"The Board of Education in Bladen County shall consist of five members, to be nominated and elected by the voters of the entire County, and the present members of the Board of Education shall continue to hold office until their successors are elected and qualified as herein provided."

Sec. 2. At the primary and general election to be held for County officers in Bladen County in 1968, there shall be nominated and elected five members of the Board of Education. In the general election of 1968, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of four years, and the three candidates receiving the next highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of two years. In 1970 and biennially thereafter, there shall be nominated and elected members of the Board of Education to take the place of the members whose terms next expire, and the persons so elected shall serve for terms of four years.

The members elected in 1968 and thereafter shall take office on the first Monday of December in the year said members are elected.

In the event two or more candidates receive the same number of votes in the 1968 election, the County Board of Elections shall determine which candidates are elected for a term of four years and which candidates are elected for two-year terms.

Sec. 3. The provisions of Article 5, Chapter 115 of the General Statutes, shall apply to the Bladen County Board of Education except as modified by this Act.

Sec. 4. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 5. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
