AN ACT AMENDING CHAPTER 908 OF THE 1963 SESSION LAWS RELATING TO MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN THE TOWN OF HAMLET IN RICHMOND COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The last paragraph of Section 3 (a) of Chapter 908, Session Laws of 1963, is amended by striking from line 1 thereof the words and punctuation "and biennially thereafter,".

Sec. 2. Section 3(a) of Chapter 908, Session Laws of 1963 is amended by adding a new paragraph at the end of said Section to read as follows:

"At the election to be held in 1969, and biennially thereafter, three Commissioners shall be elected. The two candidates for Commissioner receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of four years and the candidate receiving the next highest number of votes shall be elected for a term of two years. All candidates elected as Commissioner shall serve until their successors are elected and qualified."

Sec. 3. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
