HOUSE BILL 1379

AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 14 OF THE GENERAL STATUTES OF NORTH CAROLINA BY THE ADDITION OF SECTION 14-118.4 TO INCLUDE THE CRIME OF EXTORTION.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

Section 1.  Article 20 of Chapter 14 of the General Statutes of North Carolina is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof a new section as follows:

"§ 14-118.4. Extortion. — Any person who threatens or communicates a threat or threats to another with the intention thereby wrongfully to obtain anything of value or any acquittance, advantage, or immunity is guilty of extortion and such person shall upon conviction be guilty of a felony."

Sec. 2.  This act shall become effective upon ratification.
