HOUSE BILL 533

 

AN ACT TO AMEND THE ERWIN TOWN CHARTER TO PERMIT ANNEXATION OF AREAS LYING WITHIN THE CORPORATE BOUNDARIES.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  The Charter of the Town of Erwin, contained in Section 5 of Chapter 12, Session Laws of 1967, is amended by adding a new Section 2.2 to read:

"Section 2.2.  Annexation of Areas Within the Corporate Boundaries.  In addition to the authority granted by G.S. 160A-36 (or by G.S. 160A-48 when the population reaches 5,000 or more), the Board may annex any area, or part thereof, which is surrounded by the corporate boundaries of the Town.  The procedural requirements of G.S. Chapter 160A, Article 4A, Part 2 (or Part 3 when the population reaches 5,000 or more) shall be applicable to any such annexation.  The property tax liability of any such annexed area shall be determined as provided in G.S. 160A-58.10."

Sec. 2.  This act is effective upon ratification.
