GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA

CHAPTER 336
AN ACT CONCERNING STAGGERED TERMS FOR THE TOWN OF LAUREL PARK.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
Section 1. Section 2 of Chapter 622, Session Laws of 1947, as rewritten by Chapter 348, Session Laws of 1987 reads as rewritten:
"Sec. 2. In 1987, and quadrennially thereafter, a
Mayor shall be elected for a four-year term. In 1987, three commissioners
shall be elected. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for
commissioner shall be elected for a four-year term, and the two candidates
receiving the next highest numbers of votes shall be elected for two-year
terms. In 1989 and quadrennially thereafter, one commissioner two
commissioners shall be elected for a four-year term four-year
terms. In 1989 one commissioner shall be elected for a two-year
term. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for
commissioner in 1989 shall be elected for the four-year term, and the candidate
receiving the next highest number of votes shall be elected for the two-year
term. In 1991 and quadrennially thereafter, two commissioners one
commissioner shall be elected for four-year terms a four-year
term."
Sec. 2. This act is effective upon ratification.
