AN ACT EXTENDING THE TERMS OF OFFICE OF THE PRESENT MEMBERS OF THE DURHAM COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION AND PROVIDING FOR THE ELECTION OF THEIR SUCCESSORS BY THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The terms of office of the members of the Durham County Board of Education appointed by the 1963 General Assembly are hereby extended until the first Monday in December, 1964.

Sec. 2. The Durham County Board of Education shall consist of five members to be nominated as provided by G. S. 115-19. In the general election to be held in 1964, and quadrennially thereafter, the nominees for membership on the Durham County Board of Education shall be voted upon by the qualified voters of said county and shall be elected for a term of four (4) years.

Sec. 3. The terms of office of the members of the Durham County Board of Education elected in 1964 and, quadrennially, thereafter shall begin on the first Monday in December following their election. Persons elected members of said Board of Education shall qualify by taking the oath of office on the first Monday in December following their election. A vacancy in the membership of said County Board of Education shall be filled by the remaining members of the board.

Sec. 4. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 5. This Act shall be in full force and effect on and after its ratification.
