AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 131 OF THE GENERAL STATUTES RELATING TO STUDENT LOANS ADMINISTERED BY THE MEDICAL CARE COMMISSION TO DELETE THE REQUIREMENT THAT STUDENTS OF NURSING AGREE TO PRACTICE IN A RURAL AREA OF THE STATE.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  (a) G.S. 131-121 is hereby amended by striking out the period following the word "Program" in line 15 of the first paragraph of this Article and inserting in lieu thereof a comma and adding the words "except that loans may be approved for students of nursing and for graduate nurses enrolled in specialized courses in nursing upon the condition that they practice in any community in North Carolina regardless of population."

(b)        G.S. 131-121 is hereby further amended by striking out the period at the end of the Section, inserting a colon in lieu thereof, and adding the following words: "Provided, however, in the case of nurses a rural area shall mean any community in North Carolina regardless of population."

Sec. 2.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3.  This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
