AN ACT RELATING TO THE TERMS OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF UNION COUNTY AND THE SELECTION OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Union County shall be and continue to be composed of five members who shall be nominated, elected and hold terms of office as hereinafter set forth in this Act.

Sec. 2. At the next primary election to be held in Union County in the year of 1964, and biennially thereafter, each political party may nominate five candidates for the offices of members of said Board of County Commissioners of Union County, and in the general election for the election of county officers held in the year of 1964, and biennially thereafter, the five candidates for said offices of members of said board receiving the highest number of votes shall be declared elected for two-year terms. At the end of the respective terms of office of said members of the Board of County Commissioners of Union County, their successors shall be elected for terms of two (2) years. The members of said board shall elect one of the members to serve as chairman.

Sec. 3. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
