HOUSE BILL 74

 

 

AN ACT TO AMEND THE MARRIAGE LAWS SO AS TO ELIMINATE EPILEPSY AS AN IMPEDIMENT TO MARRIAGE.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 51-9, as the same appears in 1966 Replacement Volume 2A of the General Statutes, is hereby amended by deleting from the third and fourth lines of the last paragraph thereof the phrase, "not subject to uncontrolled epileptic attacks, an idiot, an imbecile, a mental defective, or of unsound mind." and substituting in lieu thereof the following: "mentally competent.".

Sec. 2.  G.S. 51-12, as the same appears in 1966 Replacement Volume 2A of the General Statutes, is hereby amended by deleting from the second line thereof the phrase, "subject to epileptic attacks,".

Sec. 3.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4.  This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
