AN ACT TO SET THE SALARIES AND PROVIDE FOR TERMS OF OFFICE FOR CERTAIN OFFICIALS OF MITCHELL COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. Chapter 259, Session Laws of 1961, is hereby repealed.

Sec. 2. The County Accountant of Mitchell County shall receive a salary of not less than six thousand dollars ($6,000.00) per year nor more than seven thousand, five hundred dollars ($7,500.00) per year as set by the Board of Commissioners of Mitchell County, said salary to be paid in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county.

Sec. 3. The Assistant to the County Accountant of Mitchell County shall receive a salary which shall be set by the Commissioners of Mitchell County at not less than three thousand, three hundred dollars ($3,300.00) per year and not more than four thousand, two hundred dollars ($4,200.00) per year, to be paid in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county.

Sec. 4. Each Deputy Sheriff, not exceeding two, and the Jailor of Mitchell County shall receive an annual salary of four thousand, two hundred dollars ($4,200.00) per year, to be paid in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county. All expense allowances and other benefits now provided by law for such Deputy Sheriffs and Jailor shall be paid in addition to the said salary.

Sec. 5. The Sheriff of Mitchell County shall receive an annual salary of five thousand, two hundred dollars ($5,200.00) per year, to be paid in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county. All expense allowances and other benefits now provided by law for such Sheriff shall be paid in addition to the salary here provided.

Sec. 6. The Clerk of Superior Court of Mitchell County and the Register of Deeds of Mitchell County may each expend annually such amount for clerical help as may be approved by the Commissioners of Mitchell County, provided however, that such amount for each office shall be set by said Commissioners at not less than one thousand, five hundred dollars ($1,500.00) per year and not more than two thousand, four hundred dollars ($2,400.00) per year.

Sec. 7. In the primary and general elections of 1968 and quadrennially thereafter, the Tax Collector, Register of Deeds, and County Accountant of Mitchell County shall be elected for four-year terms, and shall take office on the first Monday in December of the year in which elected.

Sec. 8. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 9. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its ratification.
