AN ACT TO EXEMPT PERSONS FROM MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR'S LICENSING REQUIREMENTS WHILE SUCH PERSONS ARE OPERATING BICYCLES WITH HELPER MOTORS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 20-4.01(23), as the same appears in the 1974 Cumulative Supplement to Volume 1C of the General Statutes, is amended by adding after the word "vehicle" on the third line the following sentence:

"This shall not include bicycles with helper motors rated less than one brake horsepower which produce only ordinary pedaling speeds up to a maximum of 20 miles per hour."

Sec. 2.  G.S. 20-8, as the same appears in the 1965 Replacement Volume 1C and the 1974 Cumulative Supplement to Volume 1C, is amended by adding a new subsection (7) to read as follows:

"(7)      Any person who is at least 16 years of age and while operating a bicycle with a helper motor rated less than one brake horsepower which produces only ordinary pedaling speeds up to a maximum of 20 miles per hour."

Sec. 3.  This act shall become effective upon ratification.

In the General Assembly read three times and ratified, this the 25th day of June, 1975.
