HOUSE BILL 297

AN ACT TO RAISE THE SIZE OF ESTATES THAT MAY BE ADMINISTERED UNDER THE SMALL ESTATES PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 25 OF CHAPTER 28A AND UNDER G.S. 7A-111 AS RECOMMENDED BY THE GENERAL STATUTES COMMISSION.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

Section 1.  G.S. 28A-25-1(a) is hereby amended by deleting the words and figures "five thousand dollars ($5,000)" and inserting in lieu thereof the words and figures "ten thousand dollars ($10,000)" in both places where the same appears.

Sec. 2.  G.S. 28A-25-6 is hereby amended in subsections (a), (b), and (c) by deleting the words and figures "two thousand dollars ($2,000)" and inserting in lieu thereof the words and figures "five thousand dollars ($5,000)" wherever the same appears.

Sec. 3.  G.S. 7A-111 is hereby amended in subsections (a) and (b) by deleting the words and figures "two thousand dollars ($2,000)" and inserting in lieu thereof the words and figures "five thousand dollars ($5,000)".

Sec. 4.  Sections 1 and 2 of this act shall apply to the administration of the estates of persons dying on or after October 1, 1983.

Sec. 5.  This act shall become effective October 1, 1983.
