SENATE BILL 319

 

AN ACT TO PROVIDE A FOUR-YEAR TERM FOR THE MAYOR OF THE TOWN OF GLEN ALPINE AND FOUR-YEAR STAGGERED TERMS FOR THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THAT TOWN.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  Section 4 of the Charter of the Town of Glen Alpine, being Chapter 61, Private Laws of 1883 is rewritten to read:

"Sec. 4.  A Mayor shall be elected in 1989 and quadrennially thereafter for a four-year term.  Five members of the Board of Aldermen shall be elected in 1989, with the three receiving the highest numbers of votes elected to four-year terms, and the two receiving the next highest numbers of votes elected to two-year terms.  In 1991 and quadrennially thereafter, two members of the Board of Aldermen shall be elected to four-year terms.  In 1993 and quadrennially thereafter, three members of the Board of Aldermen shall be elected to four-year terms."

Sec. 2.  This act is effective upon ratification.
