AN ACT TO ALLOW FOR CERTAIN CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS OF EMPLOYEES, APPLICANTS FOR EMPLOYMENT, AND VOLUNTEERS IN THE SCHOOLS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 114-19.2 is amended by inserting a new subsection to read:

"(c1)    The Department of Justice may provide a criminal record check to the schools within the Department of Human Resources of a person who is employed, applies for employment, or applies to be selected as a volunteer, if the employee or applicant consents to the record check.  The Department of Human Resources shall keep all information pursuant to this subsection confidential, as provided in Article 7 of Chapter 126 of the General Statutes."

Sec. 2. This act becomes effective October 1, 1993, and applies to record checks on or after that date.

In the General Assembly read three times and ratified this the 15th day of July, 1993.
